The World Should Know

The world should know of heartache, of diamonds in red dust
Of missing limbs and phantom pains
The world should know, they must
The world should know of Waterloo, the terror that ensued
When darkness won the hearts of men and power was pursued
The world should know of children who in the night have feared
Without warmth of mother’s embrace have cried abundant tears
And yet the love of God has come, teaching orphans to forgive
Helping them to start again, to play, to love, to live
The world should know the beauty found in a child’s eyes
Who chooses love and purity, refusing to despise
The world should know of Wellington, the children who survived
